Albert Bates

Bates is a longtime partner of Southwestern desperado, George “Machine Gun” Kelly. Both are wanted for the kidnapping of Charles Urschel. Bates was first arrested in Nevada for burglary in 1916 and in Utah in 1920. He was charged again with the crime in Colorado after already serving five years in state prison. He and Kelly have been robbing banks since their parole from Leavenworth Federal Prison in 1930. They robbed their first bank in Denton, Texas in 1932, and later the Citizen’s Bank in Tupelo, Miss. A “cool operator,” Bates will be armed and ready for violence.
Attired in a tuxedo, he could easily fit into any social event. In golf togs, he would make a good companion for a foursome for he loves the game and plays it well. A career bank robber, Bailey is an escapee of Leavenworth and the Dallas County jail and is wanted in connection to not only a half-dozen recent bank robberies, but also the Urschel kidnapping in Oklahoma City and the massacre of several lawmen at the Kansas City, Mo. train station in June.

Many note a resemblance to actor Boris Karloff. Born in Montreal, Canada and raised in Topeka, Kansas, this immigrant is longtime associates of the Bloody Barker gang of Fred, Doc, and their mother, “Ma.” Wanted in connection to both the Hamm and Bremer kidnappings, where more than $300,000 in ransom was collected. In August, Karpis, the Barker gang, and George “Machine Gun” Kelly robbed the Federal Reserve in Chicago, leaving a city policeman dead. One of the most wanted men by U.S. Department of Justice.
